Engaging Engagements: 'Christoph Writes' Fashionably Supports A Friend While Denouncing Domestic Violence
My company has been asked to perform in the highly anticipated "Light Up The Runway!" This event feels extra special to me because Shay Lavonne (the fashionsita who is putting on this event) and my boy "Calli" who runs So Phocused LLC are my friends. Shay Lavonne and I grew up in the same church we attend today, New Samaritan Baptist Church. Calli and I attended Norfolk State University together.
Shay has always been fashion-foward and I'm just elated to see her walking in her purpose by pursuing her "passion for fashion!" When she texted and asked me if I could add anything poeticto the show/cause I was extra excited because I had been seeing the flyer (above) that she's been posting on Facebook. The first time I saw the flyer, I said to myself, "She not only found her passion but she is actively pursuing her passion! Good for her!" I'm just uber-pysched to be apart of her pursuit!
Until next time ...walk in your purpose by actively pursue your passion!

Kids Pray 2: "Train Up A Child In The Way He Should Go...!"
Proverbs 22:6 says, "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it." Lets train up our children to be strong and to become overcomers. Most importantly though, lets assure them that they have a village of people they can come to in any circumstance ...because if they can't look to us, they will redirect their attention elsewhere. And sadly, every day on the news, we see the result of our children's attention being drawn elsewhere. Prayer changes things ...and people!
Below is a morning prayer from Tori, 6, a beautiful little girl at my church, New Samaritan Baptist Church , here in D.C. Her mother taught her to pray in the morning to start off her day and before she goes to bed to bring her day to a close. If you would like to have your child's prayer(s) posted for "Kids Pray 2," please don't hesitate to email them to christophwrites@gmail.com. Once received and reviewed, they will be posted the very next day.
Dear God,Until Next time ...lets continue to brighten the path our children tread on a daily basis.
Thank you for this day. Thank you for watching over us last night and keeping us safe. Thank you Lord for the trees and all the pretty things you made for us to look at. Please help me and Dyllan have a good day at school today and help us get 'blue faces'. And please help Mommy at home while she works and does all of her Mommy things for us. Thank you Lord for my purpose and my destiny - please help me to pursue them with tenancity according to Your will. Bless my Daddy, my family and my friends, Ms. Corley, Mr. Joe, Ms. Keni and all the other "Awana people". Bless Bishop and Co-Pastor Kelsey and all of my church family. And God please bless the homeless people and the little kids who don't have Mommies and Daddies.
Amen

Praise Report: Evidence Of God's Love...Overseas!
All of my family and friends know already that about 5 years ago I moved to Seoul, South Korea for a year to teach English as a Second Language. While I was there I blogged about my experiences to chronicle my time there and to keep my loved ones aware of my well-being (My Korean Experience). Living in an unfamiliar place away from family (especially overseas), you pray that nothing bad happens while you're away for obvious reasons. Well, a couple of years ago, a friend of mine and fellow Alum of Norfolk State University inquired about overseas travel and living abroad. Recently, she made the decision to go ahead, be fearless and take the leap of faith by accepting a teaching position in Abu Dhabi. She was so happy and I was happy for her because I knew how much fun she would have. She was enjoying herself until something unfortunate happened and this is why some people are so apprehensive about traveling and living overseas sometimes. This is what happened...
"On Thursday night, I was attacked. I came to Dubai with some friends and we went out. A guy was sitting in a chair and got up and walked away. When he left, I sat down. He came back expecting for me to get up and started to glare at me. I did not say anything or even look at him. I continued to speak to my friend who was next to me.
He kept moving closer to me and had his foot against mine. I moved my feet. A few seconds later, as he was walking away, he kicked me. I got up to confront him and he took the glass he was drinking out of and hit me in my face with it. It broke. There was a lot of commotion. I was then taken to the hospital when I got stitches for a cut under my eye. I was then transferred to another hospital where I underwent surgery. The doctor said something about a cat eye.
The next day, I saw the doctor. She said that there was a long cut on my eyeball that they sewed up. They don't know how deep it is or if there are glass particles inside. She said because I could see light, there is a chance of regaining my sight, but I have to get a retina scan for the retina team to get their opinion tomorrow afternoon (Sunday). There is blood on my eye that is blocking my vision and that will take some time to absorb.
My lens is clear, my cornea is good, retina is good, and interior of eye is good. In the posterior of my eye, there is hemorrhage in the vitreous gel. I will continue taking antibiotics to prevent infection and they will do another ultrasound tomorrow. I'm praying y'all and prayer changes things. I'm just trusting in my amazing and magnificent God."Pita Gay posted this message on Facebook and her family, friends, and all of NSU began to pray. Pita Gay also posted this appeal concerning the bill for the immediate surgery that she needed because her insurance didn't cover the surgery (EVERYONE, PLEASE GO OUT AND VOTE...FOR OBAMA!). Here is the appeal below.
"Because of you, I was able to be discharged and cover my bill. The hospital gave me a discount that brought the bill down to $6800 and your donations and generosity covered $3000 of it. I cannot verbalize how thankful I am to you ALL. Here is the low down on my eyes: No bleeding under retina, but there is 5% behind, but not center and will absorb over time. The evidence of God's love is so clear in this situation. Even in this horrid economy, people sacrificed to help someone in need! I pray that Pita Gay continues to enjoy her stay in Abu Dhabi...I'm sure she will because the favor of God is on her life. She remained filled with faith and she prayed daily!
Retina was incarcerated where the glass ...
went it, so they had to cut it to release it and the reattach. They put oil in my eye as a weight to keep the retina pushed again the cell wall and stabilize. I must keep my Head down for two weeks.
They had to Remove lens because there was blood and gel stuck on it. After retina is stabilized, they will insert a silicone lens. Retina looks stable now. Vision will improve with time. 6 weeks more info. There was no scarring on the table. The amount of scarring determines the percentage of vision I will regain. They will know more after 6 weeks or so. I can see a little bit from the front now although it is blurry. The doctor wants to see me next Monday. I was discharged today."
Thank you, NSU! Behold the Green & Gold!
See you at Homecoming 2012!!!
Until next time, continue to be a blessing in someone's life!

Pen & Pad Prayers: Appreciation For My Passion & Purpose
Lord,
First of all, thank you for waking me up on this Monday morning and rewarding me with the privilege of experiencing another day that you have made. However, I recognize that you did not wake me up simply to SEE another day but you woke me up so I could SEIZE the day...that you have made. I understand that we all were put on this earth for a divine purpose and I appreciate and believe that our PASSIONS are finely intertwined with our purpose. Lord, thank you for my wife, my family, and my friends for their support as I pursue my passion. Some will probably never understand why I've decelerated or simply stopped the endeavors that were merely started for me to make me money. They may never understand why or how I could lose interest in doing something that was so lucrative. Lord, my passion makes me happy. It allows me to show You appreciation, and it motivates and inspires those that it reaches. And, Lord, because you gave me an entrepreneurial and an philanthropic spirit, I have developed a plan for my passion to cater to my business savvy and desire to be a blessing to others. You showed me through several resources that if you start something that matters (with the primary intent to give back and to make a difference in the world and in the local community) people will buy into it and support my efforts. I commit to my purpose and to my assignment. Thank you for this Monday because it represents a fresh start. This particular Monday represents the start of a new work week and the start of my 30TH BIRTHDAY MONTH. I feel blessed to be on the cusp of celebrating yet another stage of life; my 30s. Thank you for the many blessings bestowed upon me. Please bless my wife and my loved ones...in Jesus name, Amen!
Until next time ...keep praying! Prayer changes things!

Inquiring Minds: Can Pain Lead To Promotion?
"In what way are you using the pain of your past to push you into a place of promotion?"
This is one question (if answered honestly and ernestly) that can spark a sense of self-evaluation and can lead you into an increase of self-esteem. Answering this question trufthfully has the potential to motivate you to stay mindful of the many lessons you've learned and victories you've earned as a direct result of you trusting God. Be encouraged by knowing and claiming that it was God who brought you through those storms and over those obstacles. And be empowered in the declaration of the fact that God will never leave nor forsake you as you encounter new levels and new devils in life.
